The 2026 Proton S70 MC2 is a new-generation model with a naturally aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 120 PS and 150 Nm. It drives the front wheels through a CVT automatic and comes in Lite and Prime trims. Both have five seats and 1,499 cc displacement; the current specification lists output as 118 hp. A facelifted turbo S70 is being spied for 2027, but the MC2 on sale is the naturally aspirated car.
Which variant to buy
Most buyers should start with the 1.5 Lite at RM59,800. It has the same 1,499 cc, 118 hp naturally aspirated petrol engine, front-wheel drive, CVT automatic and five-seat layout as the 1.5 Prime. The 1.5 Prime costs RM62,800, so the RM3,000 step up is for trim rather than any mechanical gain. Choose Prime only after checking that its equipment differences matter to you; otherwise Lite is the rational pick.
Verdict
The S70 MC2 gives buyers a conventional C-segment sedan at a price far below the BYD Seal 6, Aion ES and Mazda 3 Sedan, all of which begin above RM100,000. Its naturally aspirated 1.5-litre engine and CVT make for a simpler mechanical layout than the earlier turbo/DCT formula. Five-year maintenance is quoted at RM4,000, though that is still higher than some smaller national cars. The Lite makes the strongest case on price.
