So, while the Citroen SpaceTourer Hyphen has managed to capture some attention, Peugeot on the other hand has in mind, its own variation of its new van, named the Traveller i-Lab. As a refresher, the Citroen SpaceTourer, Peugeot Traveller and the Toyota ProAce shares identical technical specifications, as they are all the same car beneath, despite the different exterior design.
Most of the external elements of the Traveller i-Lab has been seen before. However, in detail, the van is based on the Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2) and measures 4,960 mm long, 1,920 wide and 1,900 mm tall, with a 3,280 mm wheelbase. On the front, there’s a vertical grille with chrome surroundings, complemented by Xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights.
On the sides, the “VIP 3.0 shuttle” features sleekly designed side panels, concave door sills and protruding wheel arches. According to the brand, the Traveller i-Lab has reduced overhangs that “makes light of urban constraints.” Additionally, the ride height of the van is ideal for underground and city carparks, says Peugeot.
The van here has lots to offer inside in terms of tech. For the driver, there’s a seven-inch touchscreen with VisioPark and Peugeot Connect Fleet Management service (vehicle usage monitoring application), voice recognition and driver inattention monitoring system. Other features come in the form of safety tech, including road sign reading and Active City Brake.
Four passengers are seated facing each other, while a 32-inch touch capacitive tablet is fitted in the middle. The passenger seats are wrapped in Alcantara and patinated black leather, while the door panels get leather trim as well. The roof console diffuses air from the climate control, and comes with LEDs that provide dim lighting. A pair of induction charging docks are also available.
Aural pleasure is provided by a total of 17 Focal components that consists of loudspeakers, woofers, mediums, subwoofer and tweeters – located throughout the interior. Sound is enhanced by three 1,300 Wrms Focal FD amplifiers and a Digital Sound processor provides adaptive sound throughout the cabin.
Furthermore, it has electric hands-free sliding doors, which can be opened via a sensor installed in the sill panel (activated via foot). Upon getting into the van, smart devices will connect automatically to the on-board wi-fi hotspot, while a Cloud access platform is also available.
As for the huge tablet – developed in collaboration with Samsung – it’s positioned on an arch that’s made out of raw wood and resin and can be split into four separate screens. It comes ready with connected navigation and it can perform tasks such as virtual visits (via a VR headset), remote hotel check-in and check-out and much more for that matter.
